Praveen Hegde, hailing from Tattisar in Sirsi, is a passionate and skilled Yakshagana Mummela artist with over 10 years of experience in the field.
His journey into the world of Yakshagana began in the year 2006–07, inspired and guided by Shri Parameshwara Hegde Ainbail, under whom he underwent both foundational and advanced training in Yakshagana.
Under his Guru’s tutelage, Praveen mastered not only the expressive movements and stylized dance forms (Yakshagana Nrutya) but also delved deep into understanding the nuanced portrayal of diverse characters and the technical intricacies of Mummela performance. His dedication and consistency over the years have established him as a refined performer admired for his discipline and stage presence.
Despite having pursued and completed a Master’s in Statistics, and currently working as a Data Scientist, Praveen has consistently kept his Yakshagana practice alive. Balancing a modern profession with a traditional art form, he stands as an example of cultural continuity amidst a contemporary career.
At Dheemahi Yakshagana Kalakendra, Praveen plays a vital role as the Lead Instructor. His commitment to teaching and passing on the rich legacy of Yakshagana to the next generation is noteworthy. With a strong vision and deep dedication toward the growth and nurturing of the Kalakendra, Praveen continues to inspire young learners and contribute significantly to the preservation of this classical art form.
