⚔️ Scene: Devendra Receives a Messenger – The Threat Intensifies

🎶ಪಾಲಿಸೋ ಸುರಪ I ಲಾಲಿಸೋ ಕೆಡುಕ II ಖೂಳದೈತ್ಯರು ಗರ್ವತಾಳಿ ಬಂದಿರುವರು II ಇರುವ ಆಸೆಯಿಲ್ಲ ಧುರ ವಂತು ಸಲ್ಲ I ಪರಿಣಾಮವೇನೆಂದು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಯೋಚಿಸು II

Devendra: A messenger arrives!

Messenger: My lord, Devendra! I’ve returned from the borders with urgent news!

Devendra: Tell me, what’s the matter?

Messenger: I came with good intentions, but I'm forced to bring terrible news. You must hear the tale of a rising threat.

Devendra: What happened? Who is this threat?

Messenger: Lord, we always believed that those who approach Swarga must be noble, virtuous. But that belief has shattered today. A terrifying horde of rakshasas — grotesque, burning eyes, terrifying roars — stormed our frontiers. With loud battle cries and tremendous force, they overwhelmed our guards. They claim you must surrender Swarga to them, or they will seize it by force.

Devendra: What! Who dares such insolence?

Messenger: I do not know what their desire for Swarga is. But whatever desire we had has vanished out of fear. They say their leader is Shambarasura, from a city named Vaijayanti. We cannot stand against them alone. Only you can save us!

Devendra: Cowards driven by greed! Do not be afraid. Gather courage! Let us rise and face them in battle!

⚔️ Scene: Devendra Confronts Shambarasura

🎶ಸುರರಿಗಭಯವ ನೀಯುತ | ವಜ್ರವನು | ಧರಿಸಿ ಖತಿಯಿಂದೇಳುತ II ಕದನಕಿದಿರಾಗು ಬೇಗ | ಶೈಮಿನಿಯ ಸದನದೊಳಗಿಹುದು ಭೋಗ II

Devendra: Rakshasa! Who are you? No need for introductions. One who enters Swarga with arrogance and envy doesn’t deserve courtesy. Only those with the merit of virtue and divine grace may enter here. If you’ve wandered here unknowingly, you’re clearly lost.

Shambarasura: Oh? Is this Swarga? Interesting. Looks like you’ve been sentenced to Naraka (hell) for your sins.

Devendra: You are the one destined for Naraka! Face my Vajra and prepare for your fall.

Shambarasura: You speak boldly. But are you truly the rightful ruler of Swarga? Did you earn it through merit or deceit?

🎶ವಂಚನೆಯೊಳೆಮ್ಮವರನು | ಮಡುಹುತೊಳ|ಸಂಚಿನಿಂದೀ ಸುಖವನು II ಮಿಂಚೆಸಿಹೆ ಸುರವರ್ಗದಿ I ಸೆಳೆದಿದನು | ಹಂಚುವೆನು ಕ್ಷಣಮಾತ್ರದಿ II

Shambarasura: Indra, your bravery is evident, but so is your cunning. You lost Swarga once due to your own arrogance and only regained it with the help of the Danavas during the churning of the ocean. Then you betrayed us and seized all the divine treasures. Today, I will reclaim what was denied to us.

Devendra: You speak too much and know too little!

🎶ಒಡಲುರಿಯು ನಿನಗೆ ಬರಿದೆ | ಯಾಗದಿಂ|ದೆಡೆದೊರೆತುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎನಗೆ|| ಕಡುಪಾಪ ಗೈದುನೀವು| ತತ್ವಲಕೆ|ಪಡೆಯುವಿರಿ ಸಾವುನೋವುII

Devendra: You weren’t denied anything. During Samudra Manthana, your elders were given first choice. But it was they who walked away. You clearly haven’t studied the story well. Swarga is not for the envious. It is earned through a hundred Ashwamedha Yagnas, through penance, blessings of the Trimurtis and sages. Not through force.

Shambarasura: I know your greatness. And I also know your sins.

🎶ಅರಿತಿಹೆನು ನಿನ್ನ ಘನತೆ|ದಿತಿಜ ಕುಲ|ಮೆರೆಯೆ ನಿನಗಹದು ಕೊರತೆI ಕರದಿ ಧರಿಸಿಹ ಕುಲಿಶ ವ| ಬೀಳಿಸುವೆ ಪರಿಕಿಸೈ ರಣರಭಸವ II

Shambarasura: You, who speak of dharma, once murdered the pious wife of Sage Bhrigu! You harassed King Bali just because he was a righteous Danava. Your envy flares when our clan prospers. Now, I have my own thunderbolt too. Let us see who falls in battle. Surrender Swarga or face my wrath.

Devendra: If I feared words, I wouldn't still be here. I’ve faced greater foes than you. Come, let us settle this with battle, not talk.
